In 1946 the Imperial line was simplified. Between 1946 and 1948, it was called the Crown Imperial. Two body styles were produced, an eight passenger four-door sedan and an eight-passenger four-door limousine. The two vehicles had a US$100 price difference and a 10 lb (5 kg) weight difference. Hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers were in the front and rear.Two-speed electric windshield wipers were standard

The wheelbase of all reached the classic dimension of 145.5 inches, assuring comfortable accommodations in the rear compartment. This was 6 inches longer than the standard seven passenger Chrysler Royals and Windsors and 9.5 inches longer than the equivalent Cadillac. Powered by the venerable 135 horsepower 323 cubic inch flathead straight eight and weighing almost 5300 pounds, their forward progress might best be described as stately. In subsequent postwar years, Chrysler would cede the major share of this market to GM, but not before building a small number of memorable cars in the 1950’s and later in partnership with Ghia. You will find more interesting Imperial history at the Online Imperial Club. Chrysler photos courtesy of Alden Jewell.
